In relation to Ghana Ladies in Tech Awards (GLIT) 2021 Maden Edition nomination opened past few weeks, honoured Ghanaian women in technology. The awards, organized by Ghana Ladies in ICT, honoured and celebrated outstanding Ghanaian women who have pioneered and made significant contributions to Ghana’s tech environment.

Given how gender-biased the ecosystem is, these women’s efforts cannot go unnoticed or unrewarded. Their efforts and inventions have helped to put the female child, as well as Ghana, on the map.

Background of Ghana Ladies in Tech Awards

Through partner hubs in Ghana, Ghana Ladies in Tech has been empowering young female entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts. Local sub ladies in IT communities across the country offer a variety of events ranging from mentorship sessions to training programs and support efforts aimed at increasing female participation in the tech industry.

The Glit Awards were established this year and were financed by the World Bank and assistance provided by the Ghana Ministries of Communications and Digitisationto encourage, honour and promote female entrepreneurs, innovators, and women in vocational disciplines who flourish and excel in their jobs and enterprises.

“We wanted to acknowledge, honour, and award female entrepreneurs and pioneers in IT and to encourage other ladies in the industry,” Belinda Darkwa, the Ghana Ladies in Tech Community’s leader, said. We also want students to understand that there is more they can accomplish in the computer world.”

The Most Skillful Shepreneur of the Year award went to Paulette Watson of STEM Academy Achievers, whose #BeMe Project aims to inspire 1 million black females to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

YisonTech Hub won the GLIT community pitch with their unique software “Mentor Me,” which will attempt to guide especially young girls who use the app, therefore providing them with tremendous prospects.

These women and female leaders have done a fantastic job of putting Ghana on the map. Even though there is a gender imbalance in Ghana’s tech ecosystem when it comes to women, the women who are currently there are making strides and paving the way for a bright future for the girl child and technology.

Ghanaian Women in Technology

The Ghana Ladies in Tech Initiative aims to build a network of tech-savvy women who will be involved in a variety of activities that will assist them to change, enhance, and enrich their entrepreneurial journeys, transforming their firms into globally competitive enterprises.

Their goal is to improve women’s overall quality of life and to provide new job opportunities for women and girls who might not otherwise have a clear route in the tech ecosystem. They are committed to closing the digital divide and providing opportunities for women and girls to succeed in technical education and advancement.
