In the past, hard drives were commonly partitioned using the MBR format. However, nowadays, hard drives are frequently configured with large amounts of storage space, necessitating the use of a GPT partition design. As a result, if you need to upgrade an older disk to a newer one with a larger capacity, you’ll need to figure out how to clone MBR to GPT.

In this post, we’ll show you how to use an excellent partition management program.

The Best Way to Clone MBR to GPT

MiniTool Partition Wizard is the best option for cloning MBR to GPT disks. Why? MiniTool Partition Wizard is a disk partition management program that can help you address a variety of problems with your hard drive. MiniTool Partition Wizard has the greatest feature for cloning MBR to GPT, which is called Copy Disk. In a nutshell, Copy Disk is meant for consumers who need to upgrade their hard drive to an SSD or move from a smaller to a larger drive. Furthermore, if a hard drive is about to fail, users should make a backup by cloning their hard drive before data loss occurs. To clone an MBR disk to a GPT disk, follow the procedures below.

Note:

1 If you’re trying to clone the system disk, Copy Disk from MBR disk to GPT disk is a premium feature in MiniTool Partition Wizard.

2 UEFI mode should be supported and activated if you wish to boot the machine from the GPT disk after you’ve finished copying MBR to GPT.

Run MiniTool Partition Wizard on the first step. Select the MBR disk you wish to clone in the main interface and click Copy Disk from the left action panel.

Step 2: Select the target disk in the pop-up window. Please keep in mind that the destination disk should be a basic disk with no data on it in order for the cloning to succeed. As a result, you may need to make a backup of the crucial files ahead of time.

Step 3: Select your copy options. To begin, ensure that the fourth option, “Use GUID Partition Table for the target disk,” is selected. To determine the size of each partition on the target disk, select either “Fit Partitions to Entire Disk” or “Copy Partitions without Resize.” Furthermore, whether the target disk is an SSD or an advanced format disk, select “Align partitions to 1MB.”

Step 4: After that, you’ll receive a message that says, “To boot from a GPT drive, please remember to convert BIOS mode to UEFI.” Please remember this and click OK.

Step 5: A new message displays, instructing you to adjust the hard drive boot sequence in BIOS so that the target disk is used to boot.

Step 6: At this point, you’ve returned to the main interface. You can see that the destination disk contains all of the partitions from the source disk and uses the GPT partition style. To begin the cloning process, click Apply.

You now know how to clone an MBR disk to a GPT disk with MiniTool Partition Wizard. In reality, the Transfer OS to SSD/HD capability in this software can be used to migrate an operating system from an MBR drive to a GPT disk. It’s simple if you follow the wizard’s instructions.
