Microsoft is integrating Spotify into a new Windows 11 focus feature

Spotify will be integrated into a new Windows 11 feature, according to Microsoft. On Twitter this week, Microsoft’s president of Windows and devices, Panos Panay, previewed the Focus Sessions Windows 11 feature, which appears to offer a new way to focus on projects and work. Focus Sessions now adds Spotify integration, allowing you to set a timer to complete tasks while listening to a Spotify playlist.

Microsoft hasn’t started testing Focus Sessions in public releases of Windows 11, but it looks to be embedded into the operating system’s Clock app, according to the video Panay teased. It appears to be using the Pomodoro Technique, which is a time management strategy that involves breaking down work into smaller chunks and taking brief pauses.

Pomodoro apps and websites already exist, allowing you to set aside time to focus on a list of chores. Microsoft’s Spotify integration could be a way for the corporation to differentiate itself from the competition.

It’s also the first big Spotify integration in Windows since Microsoft’s Groove Music service was decommissioned in 2017. Microsoft cooperated with Spotify at the time to migrate Groove Music subscribers and their playlists to the competing music streaming service. Microsoft and Spotify previously collaborated on a Windows 10 app as well as a separate Xbox console app.
