According to reports, popular messaging service WhatsApp will soon let users make UPI payments through the app. The Facebook owned company has reportedly received the green-light from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to tie up with banks for the purpose of enabling funds transfer through the app.
Reports have quoted A.P. Hota, MD and CEO, NPCI, as saying that the application has been granted permission to work on the payments feature in collaboration with banks throughout the country.
Mobile payments  have been catching up slowly in Ghana, helped along by apps like Slydepay.  WhatsApp has a much wider reach with the Ghanaian audience, and UPI payments on the app can make mobile payments reach the popularity the government was hoping for during demonetisation.
