Treepz, an African mobility business, has launched in Ghana as part of its expansion throughout the continent. They are a startup that uses shared mobility technologies to link commuters to high-quality, low-cost buses for their daily journey. Formerly known as Plentywaka, the bus-hailing service has changed its name to Treepz (pronounced travels), which is a more widely recognized name.

Mr Isidore Kpotufe, the country manager for Treepz Ghana, said the company introduced the concept of convenient rides after identifying the struggle commuters face in boarding over-aged buses to get to their destinations every day at a launch event held on Thursday, September 16 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, which also coincided with the company’s 2-year anniversary celebration.

Commuters can also use the Treepz app to plan a transport at a convenient time and acquire all the facts about their ride, according to him.

“I don’t have to get up at 5 a.m. to walk a long distance with strangers to get a dreadful bus. Apart from the convenience of booking a bus using the app, all of the buses are checked for quality, comfort, and a variety of other factors, so I know I won’t be stressed on my trip to work.”

Onyeka Akumah, Treepz’s CEO and co-founder described the company’s successful journey since its inception in September 2019. He said he chose to use technology to shift the narrative after examining the fears involved with boarding public transportation, which he described as “far from comfortable.”

He emphasized that Treepz provides passengers with the opportunity to ride in a well-tracked bus. Commuters, he claims, can forecast their trip times, understand the drivers who will take them to their destinations, and have a notion of who their fellow passengers will be, giving them a sense of security in the event that something goes wrong.

He stated that Treepz intends to grow into more industries in the future. Customers can hire Treepz for both daily and travel journeys.

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr Fredrick Adom Obeng, spoke at the event and assured the Treepz founders of the government’s support in helping the company flourish in the country. He applauded the idea of expanding technology’s usage in transportation.

How can I book a Treepz ride?

  • Get the Treepz App from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  • Fill out the form with your information.
  • Make your first ride request

Commuters can use the smartphone app to book pick-up and drop-off locations from the comfort of their homes or at bus stops.

The Abola Mantse and Atofotse of the Ga State, Nii Ahele Nunoo III, as well as officials from government institutions and industrial captains in Ghana, attended the occasion.

The event came to an end with a spoken word performance by Nana Asaase, a seasoned spoken word artist, and a dignitary inspection of the buses.
