Vodafone Ghana has officially released a new wireless router, the “Vodafone Smart Surf,” to provide fast internet connectivity to those users who do not have access to fibre broadband. The Smart Surf router, which costs GH399.00, can connect up to 32 users at once.

Mr George Abban, Vodafone Ghana’s Head of Fixed Business, who attended the device’s introduction on Wednesday in Ashaiman with other Vodafone Ghana officials, said the business would continue to uphold its commitment by making life easier for citizens.

People were now spending their lives together online in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, he added, with social distancing measures becoming the new standard around the world.

“In this time of physical isolation, the web is how we connect with our loved ones. Many people access the internet through their workplace, school, or public access venues such as libraries and cafes. Closing these public spaces, therefore, will force even more people offline,” he continued.

Mr Abban, on the other hand, remarked that while the globe was recognizing the internet’s fundamental relevance, not everyone had access to its benefits. “It is undeniable that this disparity has real-world ramifications. At Vodafone, we are committed to removing barriers and ensuring that everyone has access. “With today’s launch event, we aim to assist address this,” he stated.

At the moment, Smart Surf is only available in Accra, Tema, and Takoradi. Mr Abban advised users to check the company’s fixed broadband portal, fbb.vodafone.com.gh, before purchasing to see if the service was available in their location.

“After we’ve confirmed that the service is available, add the gadget(Smart Surf) to your shopping cart and complete the purchase procedure using Vodafone Cash, VISA, or MasterCard. You can also have the item delivered to your home or arrange to pick it up at a nearby retail store.

“Customers can also stroll into any of our shops in Accra, Tema, or Takoradi to see if the service is accessible in their location and then make a purchase there,” he stated.

Users will automatically receive five gigabytes of free data after purchasing a package onto the smart surf router, according to the Fixed Business Head.

Vodafone, he added, was delighted to be at the forefront of innovation, having linked over 140,000 houses with fibre broadband, and urged everyone to sign up for the new service so that their homes and businesses could be connected to the internet.

Customers could buy any of their data packages for GH20.00 (5GB), GH40.00 (10GB), GH90.00 (25GB), GH140.00 (50GB), and GH200.00 (100GB) over a 30-day period, according to Mr Abban.

“With the integration of our secure mobile money solution, Vodafone Cash, purchasing a bundle has become even easier. You can choose and subscribe to any of our inexpensive bundles by dialling *900# from your phone. Customers can also use VISA and MasterCard to pay,” he added.
