What You Should Know About Google Event Pixel 6 Launch

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were announced by Google a few months before they were expected to be officially unveiled. The Pixel Fall Launch Livestream was later rescheduled for today, October 19. This isn’t the first time Google has done something like this; in 2019, the company did the same thing with the Pixel 4.

However, just like with the Pixel 4, Google did not reveal all of its plans. Rather, it revealed only a few of the most crucial details while keeping the rest hidden. However, based on what we know so far, Google has a very intriguing flagship in its hands.

Price and availability of the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

With the Pixel Fall Launch set for October 19, the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is expected to be released in late October. Both phones have already been seen in the wild, and there have been numerous leaks, including camera samples, so we don’t expect any major surprises. We also know that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not be inexpensive. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 do not compete in the premium market, according to Google. It’s now going all-in with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which are expected to be expensive.

“We’ve definitively not been in the flagship tier for the past couple of years — this will be different,” Google’s Rick Osterloh told the Verge, adding that “it will certainly be a premium-priced product.” While Google didn’t give precise numbers, looking at the iPhone 13 and Samsung Galaxy S21’s starting prices of $799 appeared to give us an idea of the price floor, but a Target listing showed an even lower launch price of $599 — which is even cheaper than the $699 Pixel 5. If true, the Pixel 6 would prove to be an appealing phone simply based on the pricing, more akin to the Galaxy S20 FE than any other Android flagship in terms of cost.

Google is expected to offer a Pixel Pass plan, allowing users to buy the phone on a financing plan. This would also include a package of Google services to help you hit the ground running, including Google Fi, YouTube Premium, Play Pass, and Google One.

From the Google Store listings, we can expect the Pixel 6 to be sold in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, and Taiwan. Google may expand this listing when it launches the Pixel 6 officially at the Pixel Fall Launch event, but that is how it stands for now.

Google is reportedly opening up pre-orders for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro on October 19, with a street date of October 28. In the meantime, stands showing off the Pixel 6 have appeared in Google’s New York store, and the company has begun marketing the new phone on YouTube and other social platforms. It’s an unusual launch strategy, but not unprecedented for Google, which employed a similar method for the Pixel 4.

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro design and display

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro blend a medley of design elements to produce something that’s fairly distinct from other smartphones on the market. The back adopts a camera bar that is more reminiscent of a visor than the square or circular bumps we’re used to in modern cameras. Meanwhile, the front has a bezel-free design with a centered hole punch that, when combined with the slightly squared-off look, gives it a Galaxy Note-like sensation.

Google was tight-lipped about the display in its public report, but other rumors claim the Pixel 6 will have a 6.4-inch FHD OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and the Pro 6 will have a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED with a 120Hz low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display. Both will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and will be water and dust resistant to IP68 standards.

Specifications for the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

The processor in the Pixel 6 will be the most intriguing feature. Google is developing its own silicon rather than using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 or 870, which will be found in most other top Android phones in 2021. The Google Tensor is what it’s called, and the corporation has spent a lot of time touting its powers.

While Google did not specify what was in Tensor, the chip was identified as having two ARM Cortex-X1 processors clocked at 2.802GHz, two ARM Cortex-A76 processors clocked at 2.253GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A55 processors clocked at 1.80GHz. Many people have been perplexed by this combo. The addition of the two A76 chips makes sense if Google was looking to save money.

The two Cortex-X1 CPUs, on the other hand, would propel the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro to the top of the Android ranking, given most phones only have one Cortex-X1 core. For example, the Snapdragon 888, like the Exynos 2100 that powers the Galaxy S21 Ultra, has a single Cortex-X1 coupled with three A78s. For the time being, all that’s obvious is that the Pixel 6 will be a strong gadget, though we should note that leaked Geekbench results can be tampered with, particularly when it comes to the device name.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are some of the most powerful batteries among Pixel phones, with the Pixel 6 having a 4,616mAh battery and the Pixel 6 Pro having a 5,000mAh battery. Google is also said to be increasing wired and wireless charging speeds to 33 watts and 23 watts, respectively, from the existing 18 watts and 10 watts.

According to a later claim based on certifications, Google would indeed include the 33W wired charging boost, allowing it to catch up to more powerful smartphones. A leaked marketing document verified both the upgrade (albeit with a 30W charger rather than the 33W) and the necessity to purchase a new charger, as Google is following Apple’s lead and not including chargers with the future Pixel.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are likely to ship with Android 12 and five years of updates, which sets them apart from other Android phone makers such as Samsung, which only give four years. The aforementioned Pixel Pass package is also likely to include extended warranty support, allowing the phone to live that long physically.

Cameras for the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

This year, Google is reinvesting in cameras. For a long time, Google has relied on the same old camera sensor, but with the Pixel 6, it’s now attempting to compete with newer camera phones with more than just amazing software. Google didn’t reveal the camera system’s exact specifications, but it did claim that the new lenses and sensors couldn’t fit into the typical square found in existing smartphone designs. Instead, it brought back the camera bar that first appeared on the Nexus 6P. It’s an eye-catching design. Hopefully, the photographs and video it generates are just as impressive.

With the Pixel 6 Pro, Google will introduce its first triple-camera system, which will have a conventional wide camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera. Only the wide and ultrawide lenses will be available on the standard Pixel 6, following the same concept as the non-Pro iPhone 11 and iPhone 12.

The Pro’s main camera will be a 50-megapixel camera, with the telephoto lens being 48MP and allowing up to 4x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom, according to an unintentional upload by UK shop Carphone Warehouse. The ultrawide has a resolution of 12MP. The Pixel 6 will include an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, while the Pixel 6 Pro will have a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera.

The Pixel 5a 5G, Google’s newest smartphone, has already been released in the United States and Japan. If you want a Pixel that looks like the Pixel 4a 5G but has a larger display and battery, this is the phone for you. It’ll be used to replace the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G, but because to a chip scarcity, it won’t be available everywhere – while alternatives like Samsung’s A52s 5G exist.
