It’s 2021, But Apple WWDC Keynote Remains Online-Only Event

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In the tech-space, 2020 was marked as much by online-only events as it was by the Covid-19 pandemic.

We saw virtual keynote events from every huge tech company under the sun, from Samsung’s Galaxy S21 launch, Google’s Pixel 5 launch and Apple’s iPhone 12 launch event. This year, despite the invention and distribution of a vaccine, it seems we will have to wait until 2022 for things to finally return to some semblance of normalcy.

Apple has just announced that the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) for this year will take place from June 7th to 11th this year, and it will be online-only, just like it was last year.

Apple isn’t known for making big hardware releases during WWDC, barring a few exceptions over the years, but this year could be the perfect opportunity to spring a surprise.

The memoji released as the mascot for the event is shown in glasses with a reflection from a laptop on it. This could mean anything, from a new Macbook, or even the long-rumoured Apple VR and AR glasses that have been in the rumour mill for years now.

No matter what we get at WWDC 2021, Apple is certainly due to thrill fans and onlookers alike with new releases for iOS, macOS, iPadOS and watchOS so definitely, that is something to look forward to.

Here’s to hopefully the last virtual WWDC ever. 2022 can’t get here quickly enough.
