Users could previously prevent users from commenting on their posts by barring them individually or restricting comments to their followers alone. The new tool is called “Limits,” and it prevents people who don’t follow you or who have recently followed you from commenting on your posts or sending you a message if you enable it.

Here’s how to use it:

1. Go to Instagram “Settings” by tapping on the profile image icon on your profile page, then three horizontal lines.
2. Select “Privacy” from the drop-down menu on the Settings screen.
3. Select “Limits” from the “Interactions” menu to go to the next page.
4. On the next screen, under the ‘Who to limit’ section, enable the option for “Accounts that aren’t following you.”
5. You can set a time limit for these individuals ranging from one week to four weeks. Finally, press the “Turn on” button.

That is all there is to it. Non-followers will no longer be able to send you DMs or leave comments on your posts. You may also turn off the “Recent followers” toggle if you don’t want them bothering you.

The feature is available to everyone in the world on both Android and iOS platforms. Instagram expects that it would be beneficial to creators who receive a large number of comments.

Hidden

Instagram has also included a “hidden words” function that allows users to automatically screen their messages for objectionable words, emoticons, and other content and send them to a hidden folder. The feature includes a list of potentially objectionable words, hashtags, and other terms.

To enable this functionality on your account, follow these steps:

1. Select “Privacy” from the “Settings” menu on Instagram.
2. Tap on “Hidden words” under “Interactions” at the top of the screen.
3. Toggle the toggles next to “Hide More Comments” and “Hide Message Requests” on the following page.

That’s all; offensive comments and direct messages will now be hidden.

Additionally, you can construct your own word list using the “Manage Custom Word List” option below. You can enter words, emojis, or phrases that offend you here and turn on the “Hide Comments” and “Hide Message Requests” toggles to ensure that you never receive comments or messages containing those words.

Apart from the aforementioned new capabilities, Instagram is now providing warnings to users who repeatedly attempt to post abusive comments on other people’s posts or harass others.
