Just In: DStv Introduces A New Way To Discover Content With The HD Decoder

Reading Time: 2 minutes

With hundreds of programs to choose from across all DStv channels, the options can get overwhelming, causing our customers to lose out on new and exciting series and channels. With this in mind, DStv set out to find ways to make it even easier to offer the right material to the right subscribers at the right time, all while taking into account the device they’re using.

This is where the HD decoder comes into play. The DStv remote’s blue button may now be used to find recommendations that can be seen right away or stored for later viewing through a reminder.

The content recommended by the HD decoder blue button will be based on the subscriber’s current viewing habits, which makes it unique. There will be no need to connect to the internet to use the feature.

“We are very excited to introduce the new HD decoder recommendation function because it means that our DStv customers will no longer have to worry about memorizing their favourite shows and will be able to simply press the blue button to see their most-watched and suggested shows when they are scheduled to air again.

Customers may watch new shows, create automated reminders for when they should watch them, and explore a wider range of content they may not have seen before. Furthermore, users do not need to purchase a new decoder or connect to the internet; they can use their existing HD Decoder to access the functionality,” stated MultiChoice Ghana Managing Director Alex Okyere.

The HD decoder is based on a technology known as C.R.I.S. (Content Recommending Intelligence System). Every time our consumers watch certain shows, they are teaching C.R.I.S more about their viewing habits, much like a robot. C.R.I.S grows so familiar with consumers’ favourite TV series over time that it may recommend new shows they would enjoy but weren’t aware of.

“C.R.I.S is simply another way that DStv is utilizing the potential of artificial intelligence and the brilliance of our team to design human solutions, and deliver on our commitment to enhancing our audience’s viewing pleasure,” said Alex Okyere, MultiChoice Ghana Managing Director. Finally, we want our members to spend more time viewing their favourite programs and finding new ones.”

C.R.I.S is now available to DStv customers who have an HD decoder.
