Emerging Public Leaders Ghana celebrates the graduation of its second cohort

The second cohort of Ghana Public Service Fellows from Emerging Public Leaders will complete the two-year intense public service fellowship program.

The graduation ceremony will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. GMT in the Ecobank Auditorium at the Ecobank Head Office in Accra. A complete list of the graduating fellows can be seen here.

Fellows have produced UN reports, directed digitization projects, and worked on budgets presented to Parliament while navigating a worldwide epidemic in their previous jobs as public officials. Deborah Mmabila Azika, one of the fellows, was named best graduating candidate by the Ghana Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Betsy Williams, Emerging Public Leaders Founder; Nana Kwasi Agyekum Dwamena, Head of Ghana’s Civil Service; and others will join the graduating fellows and the Emerging Public Leaders program team to deliver words to guide the fellows on their future journeys as civil service leaders.

“An effective government that delivers for the people relies on civil workers. Yawa Hansen Quao, Executive Director of Emerging Public Leaders, remarked, “Today, I am immensely delighted to see 16 capable young public officials complete our fellowship program.”

“As we continue to grow our work across Africa, these young leaders demonstrate our model and the potential for the region’s civil service to be transformed. The work of EPL fellows will transform our country, region, and world.”

Emerging Public Leaders has given professional and leadership training, mentorship, and community service opportunities to this cohort’s 16 Public Service Fellows over the previous two years. Cohort 2 was chosen through a meritocratic process for their ethical leadership, professional competency, and dedication to public service.

Supervisors and ministers have frequently praised fellows for their strong work ethic and technical abilities

The EPL program has been successful in delivering civil service personnel who are dedicated and have demonstrated their ability to perform in the Service. Some of the Fellows have aided their respective institutions in delivering effectively and efficiently,” said Godwin Brocke, Chief Director of the Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS).

Since the program’s inception in 2018, Emerging Public Leaders Ghana has expanded its reach to include young Ghanaians from all 16 regions of the country. The program’s fellows and alumni have been placed in 21 government ministries across Ghana’s Central Government, including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, and the Vice President’s Office.

“Working with these top-tier fellows over the previous two years and helping them on the beginning of their travels has been an honor,” Moses Cofie, Ghana national director for Emerging Public Leaders, said. “However, this is only the start. We are excited to assist these extraordinary young people as they take the next step toward their bright futures.”

The Emerging Public Leaders Alumni Network (EPLAN), a growing network of ethical public servants devoted to excellence, will welcome the graduating Cohort 2 fellows. who act as catalysts for systemic change in the public sector of Africa?
