Ghana’s popular Inspector Bediako gets a remake, now on Showmax

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Inspector Bediako, Ghana’s hit 90s detective series and one of the most beloved TV programs ever created in Ghana, is getting a remake in a fresh new Akwaaba Magic series, which is also available to stream on Showmax.

Inspector Bediako was first published in 1993 and stars Oscar Provencal as Inspector Bediako, a detective who is good at finding criminals in any situation.

Inspector Bediako is an eight-part series starring Anthony Woode (Inside Out) as Inspector Bediako Jnr, alias Ike, a young detective who is thrown into the middle of a narcotics investigation after his promotion to an inspector at the Ghana Police Criminal Investigation Department.

Can he prove that he is deserving of his father’s famed shoes more than two decades later?

Ike, like his father, employs ingenious methods to investigate and solve domestic crime cases, ranging from kidnapping and corruption to murder and robbery, in order to keep the public safe.

But, even though he is his own man, his legendary father is never far away as he seeks to prove himself to his colleagues. Inspector Bediako Snr, played by Provencal again, is now retired and guides and advises his son on the most difficult cases.

Inspector Bediako is created and directed by Ivan Quashigah (Things We Do for Love, YOLO, To Have and To Hold), a famed Ghanaian filmmaker who describes it as “a truly Ghanaian investigative crime series” that addresses local crime situations.

Quashigah explains, “We look for stories in newspapers, the news, and from individuals around us.” “By addressing these (local) concerns rather than attempting to imitate series like NCIS, Hawaii Five-0, and other investigative productions, we will be able to deliver something that is unique to us and easily understood by our people.”

Inspector Bediako also stars Kalybos (Ghana Jollof) as Nasiru, the best in his field who examines and analyzes the most difficult evidence; Vincent McCauley (The Things We Do for Love) as the computer genius Morkporkpor; Brian Angels (The Burial of Kojo) as Adjetey aka Blade, Ike’s rival and one of the best officers in the unit; Darlyn Adu-Gyamfi (

Inspector Bediako is available on Showmax, with new episodes airing every Monday at the same time as Akwaaba Magic.
