MoCD Huawei partners will train 20,000 SHS Girls in cybersecurity at Ashanti Region

Huawei Ghana has teamed up with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation to provide cybersecurity training to 20,000 Senior High School Girls in the Ashanti Region as part of the first phase of its Seeds for the Future- Women in Tech program, which aims to empower more women and girls in STEM fields (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics).

The course, which is part of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation’s National Girls-In-ICT program, will involve 11 (eleven) senior high schools to teach them the principles of cyber security and help them be safe online.

Kumasi Wesley Girls Senior High School, Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School, St Louis Senior High School, Serwaa Nyarko Girls, Kumasi Girls, Adventist Girls SHS, St Mary’s Girls, Afua Kobi Ampem Girls, St Monica’s, TI Ahmadiya, and Prince of Peace Girls are among the schools that will benefit from the first phase of the training.

The second and third rounds of the training will take place in Ghana’s Central and Eastern Regions, respectively, and the number of participants is projected to double.

Mrs. Ama Pomaa Boateng, the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, said the initiative is part of a larger effort to continue equipping young people with the technology skills they need to prosper in the digital age.

She expressed the expectation that there would be a lot of passion among girls to improve ICT education in the country.

Mrs. Jenny Zhou, Huawei Ghana’s Director of Public Relations, expressed the ICT giant’s delight in partnering with the Ministry’s Senior High School Edition of the Girls in ICT program and stated that Huawei will continue to support initiatives aimed at empowering more females to pursue careers in the tech sector.

“In the digital age, education is the most significant tool for closing the digital gender gap. We need to give women additional possibilities to participate in the digital industry, whether through college education or social training.” She expressed herself.

Information Security, Cyber Bullying and Attacks, Child Online Protection Provisions in the New Cyber Security Act 2020, and suggestions on how to keep safe online are among the subjects covered at the Cybersecurity course, which began on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
The girls will also be educated on the importance of reporting all cyber-related issues to the National Cyber Security Authority via SMS to the shortcode 292 for immediate reaction and support.
