MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Selorm Adadevoh, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to helping Ghana achieve its goal of becoming a digital economy by investing in technology infrastructure.

MTN Ghana’s 25th-anniversary celebrations came to a close with an anniversary dinner for external stakeholders. “We illustrate this commitment by pledging to invest over USD1 billion in infrastructure and information systems over the next five years, beginning this year,” Mr. Adadevoh stated. He also pledged assistance for the government’s ICT development projects, which include the building of West Africa’s first Innovation City and the provision of an ICT Hub.

“We see Ghana as the most strategically placed country in the region to be a digital hub, exporting skills and services to diversify and accelerate GDP growth,” Mr. Adadevoh told a group of stakeholders made up of government representatives, business partners, customers, and a cross-section of media associations. As a result, for Ghanaian SMEs to “remain relevant in an AFCFTA era,” technological leadership in the area is critical.

MTN Ghana Foundation will establish a contemporary 60-bed maternity and neonatal center for the Keta Municipal Hospital at a cost of 9 million GHC and invest 1.2 million GHC in a STEM Robotics Lab for the Mamfe Girls School and neighboring communities, in addition to supporting digital efforts.

He urged the group to support the ministry of education by expanding its offerings. “What plans does MTN have to aid our ministry of education in making digitalization in education a success?” he inquired, urging MTN to think through and start dialogues with the ministry of education in this crusade. He went on to say that education must be the driving force for digitalization.

Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister for Communications, said the MTN @ 25 is a lovely story in a speech delivered on her behalf by the Deputy Minister for Communication. “The next chapter of this story should be one of collaboration—success MTN’s should be the engine that drives the entire industry’s collective and sustainable growth to realize Ghana’s digitalization agenda,” she said. She expressed Ghanaians’ gratitude to MTN Group for believing in Ghana and investing in the country constantly throughout the years.

MTN began celebrating its 25th anniversary in June this year with a variety of activities across the country, including consumer incentives, stakeholder engagements, support for government ICT projects, as well as entertainment and sports activities.
