Mr. Shaibu Haruna has been named Chief Sales and Distribution Officer of MTN Ghana, where he will be responsible for providing strategic direction for MTN’s sales strategy, operating model, channel distribution, and digital sales infrastructure. He will also help MTN accelerate its expansion and digitalization in line with its Ambition 2025 strategy.

Shaibu Haruna is a visionary and results-oriented executive with over two decades of solid commercial experience in international corporations across Africa and the Middle East.

In a variety of sectors, he successfully implemented channel/business turnaround methods in the telecommunications, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), automobile, and financial services industries. “I am excited to welcome Shaibu back to the Y’ello family and I am confident that his expertise gained over the years will further enhance the MTN Brand as we work towards building the largest and most valuable platform business with a clear focus on Africa,” Selorm Adadevoh said of the appointment of Shaibu Haruna, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana.

Throughout his career, Shaibu has collaborated with prominent organizations. He began his sales career as an Acting Sales Executive at Unilever before moving on to Ghana Breweries Limited as a Regional Account Manager.

Shaibu joined Toyota Ghana Limited as Deputy Head of Sales in 2005, where he oversaw the implementation of a consumer and SME sales strategy that led to relationships with financial institutions. As a result, auto loan and lease products for its target market were developed.

Shaibu joined the Y’ello Family, MTN, in 2006 as Senior Manager for Sales, where he oversaw indirect sales channels in all Ghanaian markets. In 2008, he was promoted to General Manager, where he was responsible for a range of senior commercial roles in Sales, Mobile Financial Services, Customer Experience, and MTN Business in MTN Group, Ghana, Uganda, and South Africa.

Shaibu Haruna left Africa in November 2015 to join Etihad Etisalat Mobily in Saudi Arabia as Executive General Manager. In April 2017, he became the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana’s largest distributor, Izone, where he oversaw a remarkable turnaround from flat growth to double-digit growth.

Shaibu Haruna holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom and is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management in the United Kingdom.

He also has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School, where he was awarded the Holger Enberg Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Business Policy (Strategic Management).
