I HATE The Spotify App [A RANT]

So, it’s been about three months since I started actively using the Spotify app on a regular basis. Now that the initial euphoria of having paid music has finally died down, let me tell you exactly what I think about this app. In case you didn’t know what Spotify is, it is a music streaming app founded in Sweden. It is also one of the most popular streaming apps out there, with hundreds of millions of active users daily. This is all well and good but if this app is so popular, why does their UI suck so much? There are many things that annoyed me about the Spotify app user interface but lemme discuss the three main ones:

#1 Unintuitive Design

One thing that hit me once I started using Spotify was how unintuitive the design is. For some weird reason, if you want to access the equalizer when playing music, you’d need to go all the way back to the homepage, then into settings and scroll all the way to the bottom to find it. This is the same for the toggle download on cellular function. It makes absolutely no sense for them not to be right in the music player page.

#2 Equalizer Bugs

I don’t know if this is a problem with my phone or the app but for some reason, the Spotify app equalizer kicks in far too slowly for my liking. At the start of every song, there is a 2-second delay before the equalizer kicks in, which can ruin your listening experience if you are using a harsh pair of earbuds. I came to the conclusion that the crossfade delay may be interfering with the equalizer in some way, which in itself is a big problem.

#3 SD Card Download Issues

The first time I got my Spotify Premium account, I made sure to get a 32GB SD Card and got rid of all my downloaded music to make sure all my music was in one place. You can imagine my disgust when I woke up the next morning only to find that over 600mb worth of music had just disappeared and the download location had switched back to internal storage. After a while, I just gave up and decided to listen to my music online. To conclude this long rant, I really dislike the Spotify app. This isn’t because their music selection is bad or anything but more because of the slew of problems on the app that are super easy to fix. If Spotify finally decides to shape up and fix these issues, it will definitely be worth the money we pay every month to keep them going.
