CES 2022 loses another key exhibitor as Intel pulls out of in-person show

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The exodus of exhibitors from CES 2022 is continuing, with Intel being the most recent to pull out due to mounting COVID-19 fears. At the exhibition, the corporation usually has one of the largest presences of major tech companies. Lenovo, Hisense, T-Mobile, AT&T, Amazon, Waymo, Meta, Twitter, Pinterest, and iHeartRadio are among the corporations that have opted out of attending this year’s expo in person.

“Our employees’, partners’, and customers’ health and safety is always a top focus. Our plans for CES will shift to a digital-first, live experience with limited on-site workers after talking with health experts and in keeping with Intel’s safety policy. In a statement, Intel said, “We encourage you to join us as we present all of our CES content and experiences digitally via the Intel Newsroom.”

As recently as Wednesday, the Consumer Technology Association maintained its commitment to hosting this year’s conference in Las Vegas, with Jean Foster, the company’s head of marketing and communications, telling The Verge that “[our] mission remains to convene the industry and give those who cannot attend in person the ability to experience the magic of CES digitally.”

While the conference had received 42 cancellations at the time (representing “less than 7% of our show floor”), Foster claimed that CES 2022 had recently recruited 60 new exhibitors, as well as thousands of extra registrations.

While many large corporations have withdrawn from attending this year’s conference in person, significant participants such as GM and Samsung (both of whom are still scheduled to deliver keynotes at the event) remain committed to CES 2022, at least for the time being.
