More women joins ICT space as Huawei trains 50 with more to come

As part of its initiatives to boost women’s participation in the digital technology sphere, Huawei Seeds for the Future has trained 50 women.

A long-term goal is to teach 20,000 females in ICT through a partnership between the Ghanaian government and Huawei.

“It is time for our women to seize the opportunity to create and establish their enterprises after going through this intensive Digital capacity building program from Huawei,” stated Deputy Communications and Digitization Minister Ama Pomaa Boateng, thanking the ladies.

Participation of women in technology is a top goal for me and the ministry. “I want to do my part to help close the gender gap in Ghana and worldwide,” she continued.

“The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization has a plan and is preparing the female child to compete worldwide,” she said, adding that “determination and preparation are vital in attaining a brighter future.”

Madam Boateng added that they have also partnered with Huawei to provide digital skills training to over 20,000 girls around the country, adding that “that figure continues to grow.”

Huawei, a global telecoms company, wants to make ICT more accessible to everyone, particularly women and young entrepreneurs.

Kweku Essuman Quansah, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Ghana, stated that the company has always been an equal opportunity employer.

As a result, “we decided to dedicate this year’s Seeds of the Future Programme to women in STEM,” he stated.

He mentioned that through the Ministry, some female students from various universities across the country were given the opportunity to check out ICT technologies and speak with specialists this year.

“I believe that the tour of Huawei’s 5G Exhibition Hall and the courses on Huawei’s ICT talent ecosystem broadened their horizons and deepened their understanding.”

“Huawei is committed to increasing our presence in Ghana as a major global ICT solutions provider, and we will provide Ghanaian clients new ICT goods, services, and solutions, as well as collaborate within the local industry,” he added.
