Good News: Google says fix for Pixel 6 Wi-Fi is coming in March update

You’re not alone if you’ve had trouble getting decent Wi-Fi connectivity on your new Pixel 6, but the good news is that Google is aware of the issue and claims a fix will be available next month.

We’ve been receiving occasional reports from Pixel 6 owners with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth difficulties over the last several weeks. Although some people were having small networking issues before installing this month’s security patch, they grew more common after it.

Owners of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have been debating the issue in a lengthy thread on Reddit, with various recommended fixes that only appear to solve the problem momentarily at best.

Thankfully, Google has issued an official statement stating that it has identified the issue and confirmed that it only affects “a very limited number of devices.”

“Of course, we recognize this is a bad experience and immediately developed a software fix that will be available in the next Google Pixel Update, rolling out in March,” the Google rep, who goes by the Reddit handle PixelCommunity, added, while advising users to “explore other options in the meantime” by contacting Google’s support team.

This particular issue appears to cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to turn off automatically after locking a Pixel 6 device, and then not come back on at all – at least not without direct intervention.

Some customers have had limited success returning their smartphones to factory settings, but the issue appears to resurface after only a few hours.

The original Reddit poster also mentioned that the third beta of Android 12L may offer a cure for the issue, claiming that they’ve been using it for several days “with zero difficulties” and that it “looks to be fairly solid.”

Although we haven’t had this issue with our Pixel 6 devices, they do appear to have a unique problem connecting to WPA3-protected Wi-Fi 6 networks that we haven’t had with any other mobile device.

This suggests that Google may still have a few other bugs to work out in its Wi-Fi implementation, and we’re hoping that the March update brings more stability overall.
