The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were announced by Google a few months before they were supposed to be publicly unveiled. The Pixel Fall Launch webcast was later rescheduled until October 19. This isn’t the first time Google has done something like this; in 2019, the firm did the same thing with the Pixel 4. However, just like with the Pixel 4, Google did not share all of its plans. Rather, it revealed only a few of the most crucial data while keeping the rest hidden. However, based on what we know so far, Google has a very exciting flagship in its hands.

Where to watch the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Fall Launch Livestream

The Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro will be unveiled at a Pixel Fall Launch event on Tuesday, October 19 at 10 a.m. PT. On Google’s Pixel event web page, you can watch it live. Naturally, we’ll be covering everything that’s announced, though as you can see below, we already have a fairly good sense of what’s coming next.

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro price and availability

With the Pixel fall launch slated for October 19, the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to arrive in late October. Both phones have previously been seen in the public, and there have been numerous leaks, including camera samples, so we don’t expect any major shocks. We also know that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not be inexpensive. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 do not compete in the premium market, according to Google. The processor in the Pixel 6 will be the most intriguing feature. Google is developing its own silicon rather than using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 or 870, which will be found in most other top Android phones in 2021. “Tensor was designed for how people use their phones now and in the future. It’s not just about providing more computer capabilities as more and more features are powered by AI and [machine learning], it’s about using that ML to unlock specific experiences for our Pixel users,” Google added.

The Tensor processor will be the most intriguing aspect of the Pixel, and rumors suggest that Google aims to update the Pixel 6 for the next five years as a result of this new technology. “Tensor enables us to develop the Google phones we’ve always imagined – phones that keep getting better while leveraging the most powerful portions of Google, all in a highly personalized experience,” Google says. The Pixel 6 will have the most layers of hardware security of any phone, thanks to Tensor’s new security core and Titan M2.”

While Google did not specify what was in Tensor, the chip was identified as having two ARM Cortex-X1 processors clocked at 2.802GHz, two ARM Cortex-A76 processors clocked at 2.253GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A55 processors clocked at 1.80GHz. Many people have been perplexed by this combo. The addition of the two A76 chips makes sense if Google was looking to save money.

The two Cortex-X1 CPUs, on the other hand, would propel the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro to the top of the Android ranking, given most phones only have one Cortex-X1 core. For example, the Snapdragon 888, like the Exynos 2100 that powers the Galaxy S21 Ultra, has a single Cortex-X1 coupled with three A78s. For the time being, all that is apparent is that the Pixel 6 will be a strong gadget, though we should note that leaked Geekbench results can be manipulated, especially when it comes to the device name.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are some of the most powerful batteries among Pixel phones, with the Pixel 6 having a 4,616mAh battery and the Pixel 6 Pro having a 5,000mAh battery. Google is also said to be increasing wired and wireless charging rates to 33 watts (W) and 23 watts (W), respectively, from the current 18W and 10W charging speeds.

According to a later claim based on certifications, Google would indeed include the 33W wired charging boost, allowing it to catch up to more powerful smartphones. However, you will need to purchase a new charger, as Google is following Apple’s lead and not including chargers with its future Pixel in the interest of the environment. Aside from that, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are expected to run Android 12 and demonstrate the full potential of Google’s new operating system.

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro cameras

This year, Google is reinvesting in cameras. For a long time, Google has relied on the same old camera sensor, but with the Pixel 6, the firm is now attempting to compete with newer camera phones with more than just amazing software. Google didn’t reveal the camera system’s exact specifications, but it did claim that the new lenses and sensors couldn’t fit into the typical square found in existing smartphone designs. Instead, it brought back the camera bar that first appeared on the Nexus 6P. It’s an eye-catching design, and perhaps the photographs and video it generates are as well.

With the Pixel 6 Pro, Google will introduce its first triple-camera system, which will have a conventional wide camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera. Only the wide and ultrawide lenses will be available on the standard Pixel 6, following the same concept as the non-Pro iPhone 11 and iPhone 12.

According to reports, the Pro’s main camera will be a 50-megapixel (MP) sensor, with a 48-megapixel telephoto lens and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. The Pixel 6 will have an 8MP camera on the front, while the Pixel 6 Pro will have a 12MP camera.

What about the Pixel 5a 5G?

The Pixel 5a 5G, Google’s newest smartphone, has already been released in the United States and Japan. This is the Pixel for you if you want something similar to the Pixel 4a 5G in terms of style but with a larger display and battery. Google is releasing it to replace the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G, with a global launch hampered by a chip scarcity — while alternatives like Samsung’s A52s 5G are available worldwide.

What about the Pixel Fold?

With the Pixel Fold, Google is apparently working on its first foldable, placing it in direct rivalry with Samsung’s highly sophisticated lineup. It’s unclear whether there are two foldable or one, but very little information about this device has been released other than its existence, which has been learned through codebases and supply chain analyzers. According to rumors, the Pixel Fold will be released in the fourth quarter of 2021, according to leaker Evan Blass.

It is likely to contain an LTPO OLED display, similar to the Pixel 6 Pro, though the resolution and refresh rate are unknown. The Tensor chip, which is found in the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, is expected to show here as well. According to their different code names — “Passport” and “Jumbojack,” Google is said to be testing two foldable.

Some think that one of the foldable will be a clamshell, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the other will fit the Fold 3’s multitasking and productivity niche. Whatever the case may be, Google has yet to make any public statements about such a device, so we’ll have to wait and see.
