Galaxy Watch 4 To Have Google Assistant And YouTube Music

With new communication, productivity, and entertainment functions, Google is deepening its relationship with Samsung to bring the Galaxy Watch 4 deeper into the Android ecosystem.

New Galaxy Watch 4 owners will be able to install and set up Google Play apps right out of the box in the coming weeks during the first configuration process. Your favorite Android apps will appear as suggestions on your new Watch 4, allowing you to instantly install them with a single swipe without having to search the Play Store.

Following that, Google Assistant will be updated for the wearable, with a new design that promises faster reaction times. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will be able to download Google Assistant from Google Play, activate it instantly, and begin using it by just saying, “Hey Google.” Samsung claims that this will not replace its own Bixby voice assistant, but will instead allow Galaxy Watch 4 owners to select their preferred assistant.

With Wi-Fi and LTE streaming capabilities for YouTube Music Premium members, Google and Samsung hope to help you break free from your smartphone’s tethers. While you can currently download music to your Watch 4 for ad-free offline listening while exercising, the new streaming options will give you access to the whole collection while on the go. Google says this will be available on Wear OS 2 devices as well, though you’ll still need one that supports Wi-Fi to take advantage of it.

Unfortunately, Google looks to be restricting wireless streaming to YouTube Premium subscribers, though it does promise to offer some very substantial free trials to anyone who purchase one of Samsung’s newest smartphones.

Samsung is also introducing a slew of new health and wellness features to the Galaxy Watch 4 this week. New digital fitness integrations, body insights, unique interval workouts, sleep coaching, and more will be available in an update that will be released tomorrow to coincide with the Unpacked event. Fans of the Galaxy Watch 4 are anticipating a thrilling year.
